Data Center Operations Manager

Department: Critical Facilities
Location: Mobile, AL

The Manager, Data Center Operations generally oversees all Uniti Fiber on-net owned POPs, data centers, and regen facilities where Uniti Fiber has built or installed a “facility” (building, hut, or cabinet).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all our on-Net Uniti owned POPs, data centers, and regen facilities where Uniti Fiber has built or installed a “facility” (building, hut or cabinet).
  • Plan, design, and construct, using internal and third-party resources, new POP and/or colocation data center facilities or augment existing facilities with additional space, power, or telecom facilities as may be required to support Sales, Engineering, Operations or at the direction of the Director of Critical Facilities.
  • Design and operate facilities maximizing uptime while minimalizing costs.
  • Responsible for hiring, developing, and supervising Data Center Operations team, including site technicians, contractors, and vendors.
  • Responsible for identifying, contracting, disciplining, and supervising HVAC, electrical, and telecom vendors as needed to support our facilities, ensuring their work meets company standards and is cost effective.
  • Responsible for forecasting, tracking, and budgeting monthly, quarterly, and annual expenses for POP construction, POP and data center maintenance and utility expenses, preparing and presenting detailed and accurate reports on each as requested.
  • Ensure tracking and maintenance of company-owned equipment, including consumables, panels, racks, tools, buildings, HVAC components, power plants, batteries, and company vehicles.
  • Verify and manage employee time sheets, vacation, and overtime to ensure times are accurate and reasonable.
  • Ensure all Uniti Critical Facilities sites are correctly loaded and represented in Salesforce.com CRM software, including maintaining existing inventories of available racks and power.
  • Ensure all employees are competent in their duties and trained on all safety protocols required for their job.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
  • Enterprise-level Experience in managing large-scale and complex projects/programs.
  • Working knowledge of audit and compliance requirements in a large enterprise.
  • Financial Management experience and good business acumen.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must be able to multi-task and project manage many tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of working hours.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
